Tramadol is utilized in monkeys and horses for management of chronic and acute pain. There is a fairly large range in dose and dose intervals inside literature, which may be suggestive of interpatient variability. Based on one small study of eight cats, it would appear that two times a day dosing is adequate, knowning that the incidence of unwanted side effects could be higher in cats compared to dogs.
